Kumpal Vaid’s work reflects facets of her personality. Inspired by the understated notions of visual art, she is the founder of Purple Backyard – an interior design and visual merchandising studio located in Mumbai, India.

Adding context and character to each space is significant to Purple Backyard. To facilitate this, the studio takes pride in sticking to its design roots, whilst incorporating client needs through bespoke workshops and consultations. We think, reason and solve challenges with leading vendor-partners and grass root level artisans from in and around the country, helping us create divergent thinking solutions

Founder and principal designer for Purple Backyard – Kumpal has a background in Space Design and Styling from Central Saint Martins – London, and professional training in Interior Design from Rachna Sansad School of Interior Design – Mumbai. She had the early opportunity of nurturing her talent and passion by working with many illustrious designers in the city.

FOUNDER

An ideology she lives by is one of “constant learning and unlearning”. As the founder at Purple Backyard, her vision is to evolve through design while exploring sustainable solutions to execute them. Her fascination of minimal layering coupled with a play of refreshing materials has resulted in the creation of a unique identity of art, that is visible in all her creations. With over 10 years in the industry, the studio has a rank in the 2019 list of Top 100 Design Divas in association with AD and multiple awards by Houzz.com in Best design and Service for multiple years running.
